SHILOH CHRISTIAN
Defense gets it done, too
Everyone knows about Shiloh Christian’s offense, but its defense has been just as impressive.
A 64-yard run by Green Forest quarterback John Asbury on Friday was the first score the Saints defense has given up since its final non-conference game four weeks ago.
The Saints have outscored conference opponents, 178-14.
Shiloh Christian (7-0, 4-0 ) allowed a touchdown to Pea Ridge on a kick return in its conference opener Sept. 22. Asbury’s run Friday came in the third quarter against the Saints’ second-team defense. Defensive highlights in the first half Friday included a fumble recovery by Adam Herring, an interception by Andrew Jordan, a sack by Ty Dobbs and a key fourth-down tackle by Brandon McBryde. Sacks by sophomore Derek Delinger and junior Jordan Moore in the second half helped the Saints maintain a comfortable lead with most of the starters out of the game. Coach Josh Floyd credited defensive coordinator Tucker Barnard for Friday’s effort. “Coach Barnard’s done a great job getting these guys prepared,” Floyd said. “The defensive line and linebackers looked very good. When you play hard and fast on defense, good things happen.”
